Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome! Below you’ll find all the information you need to prepare for our retreat in Kenya.
🧳 Preparation & Packing
1. What should we wear?
We recommend packing comfortable, breathable clothing suitable for warm temperatures during the day and cooler evenings. Lightweight and loose clothing, such as linen, is a great option. Bring shorts and long-sleeved linen shirts for versatility and comfort.
For activities, bring:
Lightweight, moisture-wicking activewear for outdoor activities and yoga sessions.
A pair of shorts for the bike ride and walking safari.
A light jacket or sweater for early mornings and evenings.
Comfortable walking shoes.
A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
A rain jacket in case of unexpected showers.
Long pants and closed shoes for the horseback riding (you can use your activewear).
2. What kind of equipment should I bring?
We recommend bringing the following items to make the most of your retreat experience:
Your own yoga mat (or a large towel if you don’t have one)
Binoculars – perfect for wildlife spotting during game drives
A camera
A wide-brimmed hat or cap for sun protection
Sunscreen and insect repellent
Comfortable walking shoes or trainers for light hikes and activities
A flashlight or headlamp (useful in more remote areas)
A small daypack for excursions
Light, breathable clothing for the daytime, and a few warmer layers for cooler evenings
Keep luggage light and practical—you won’t need anything fancy. We’ll be spending a lot of time in nature, so comfort is key!
3. What kind of luggage should I bring?
We recommend soft-sided luggage or duffel bags that are easier to pack into safari vehicles.
4. What kind of power outlets does Kenya use?
Kenya uses the British-style plug (Type G) with 240V. Bring an adapter if your plugs differ. We also recommend bringing a power bank and an extension cord to keep your devices charged during travel and in shared accommodations.
📄 Documents & Health
5. What kind of documents do we need?
All participants need a valid passport with at least six months of validity beyond their travel dates. Most travellers will also need a visa for Kenya, which can be obtained online through the eVisa portal. Check with your local embassy for specific visa requirements.
6. What vaccinations are needed?
We recommend consulting a travel health professional for up-to-date advice. Generally, the following vaccinations are advised for travel to Kenya:
Yellow Fever (may be required, depending on your country of origin)
Typhoid
Hepatitis A & B
Tetanus & Diphtheria
Rabies (optional but recommended for those spending time in rural areas)
Additionally, a malaria prophylaxis may be recommended depending on your travel plans. Please consult your doctor well in advance of your departure.
7. Is travel insurance required?
Yes, all participants are required to have personal travel and health insurance covering medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and personal liability. The organisers are not responsible for any medical expenses incurred during the retreat.
8. Will I need to sign a waiver?
Yes. All participants will sign a liability waiver covering physical activity, wildlife exposure, and travel conditions.
🦟 Health & Safety
9. What is the malaria/mosquito situation?
Kenya is in a malaria-prone area, and it is recommended that participants take anti-malarial medication after consulting with their doctor. Mosquitoes are more common at dusk and dawn, so we recommend:
Wearing long sleeves and pants in the evenings
Using insect repellent with DEET
Sleeping under mosquito nets where provided
10. What happens in case of an emergency?
We will provide a local emergency contact for participants, and our team will be available to assist with any urgent matters. Make sure to have adequate travel insurance for medical emergencies.
🚗 Transportation
11. Will we be picked up at the airport?
Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation from the airport to the hotel in Nairobi on the first day. However, our team can assist with booking a reliable taxi or private transfer. On the final day, a car will transport the group from Naivasha to Nairobi. Participants can choose to be dropped off at the airport or in the city.
12. How will transportation be arranged during the retreat?
Once you arrive in Nairobi, all transportation between locations will be arranged by the retreat organizers. However, participants are responsible for booking their own flights and transportation from the airport to the hotel upon arrival in Nairobi.
💸 Money & Payments
13. What kind of currency should I bring?
The local currency in Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling (KES). While some places accept credit and debit cards, many smaller vendors and rural locations operate on a cash-only basis. The Sanctuary Farm, where we will be staying the last three days, accepts card payments.
14. Do I need cash? How much?
Yes, it is recommended to carry some cash for personal expenses such as tips, snacks, or souvenirs. ATMs are available in major cities like Nairobi, but it’s best to withdraw cash in advance as rural areas may have limited banking facilities. A suggested amount would be $100–$200 USD (or equivalent in KES) for incidental expenses.
15. What is your cancellation policy?
Details can be found in our Terms & Conditions. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot.
